So what can you expect if you visit First Presbyterian Church?
What to wear: this is entirely up to you. At our morning service you'll see people in everything from jeans to suits. At our contemporary service everyone is generally dressed casually.
Parking: we have a parking lot on both the side and the rear of the church, and ample on-street parking along Palisade Avenue as well as Dwight Place. The Sanctuary (where the morning worship is held) is accessible from either side of the building; the Chapel (where the contemporary worship is held) is best accessed from the Palisade Avenue side of the parking lot.
For children: in the morning, children under 3 can go to the nursery, which is located in the main corridor. The nursery is open from 9:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and again from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Our nursery is equipped with parent pagers. When you drop your child in the nursery, you will receive a pager that can summon you back to the nursery if your child needs you. During the morning worship, children come to worship for the first part of worship, and leave for their Church School classes after the children's sermon. In the evening worship, young children go to child care, while older children are welcome to stay in worship.
How long is the service: the worship usually lasts from 11:00-12:10 in the morning, and from 5:30-6:40 in the evening. After the morning service you are invited to stay for Coffee and Conversation in the back of the worship space, a wonderful time of fellowship. In the evening service, light refreshments are available in the room the entire time, and you are welcome to have a cup of coffee at your seat.
